When I got into snake-keeping as an adult, the first snake that I bought was a Brazilian Rainbow boa.  I don't know how, but I managed to find a website out there being run by Don Hamper and saw the orange and red phase rainbows that he had.  I was hooked!  These are some of the prettiest snakes out there and they have a shiny iridescence that really makes them glow.

The female that I bought in 1997 from Don was just a little pencil compared to the adult size that she is now.  I hope to find a boyfriend for her soon.  She bit me once or twice when she was a youngster but with all of the handling that she has had over the years she is quite tame now.

This is my female when she was just a few months old in 1997.

Like most of my snakes, brazilian rainbows aren't hard to get information on.  They aren't always recommended as a beginner snake because of their humidity requirement.  If you don't keep them humid they will dry out and can get sick.  But if you're interested in them, here are some places to go to get some answers:

And this is her during the summer of 2001 measuring 5' 3" in length.  As you can see, her colors have changed quite a bit.
